A pet bereavement book written by a Registered Veterinary Nurse, designed for children aged 4–8 years.

It features gentle illustrations and soft wording, and helps explain that the emotions of grief are normal.

When read with an adult, the story can be adapted to include your own religious or spiritual beliefs. I have purposely avoided words such as “heaven” and “Rainbow Bridge” so that parents can choose how to approach the subject with their child.

It can be very difficult to see children caught up in bereavement, and many parents struggle to find the right words to explain what has happened—or what is going to happen. This book is designed to support children not only through the death of a pet, but also in the lead-up to it.
